HALEY SCARNATO'S CAREER
Haley Scarnato’s initial career was not really singing. Haley is into gymnastics when she was between the ages of 5 and 15, though she started singing at age 12.
Haley Scarnato soon found out that she liked music and that she adored singing. Haley had a voice teacher and even took musical production training. Haley became a freelance singer and did back up vocals, performed with the Josephine Theatre (a local theater troupe), and sang in a live wedding band in Texas, “The Oh So Good! Band”.
Haley Scarnato tried her luck in the American Idol in her hometown of San Antonio, Texas. Haley sang Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me", a capella, where the judges had a unanimous decision to take her in and let her audition in Hollywood.
In Hollywood, Haley belted out Celine Dion's "It's All Coming Back To Me Now". Haley’s performance impressed Simon.
In the group round, Haley Scarnato sang with fellow semi-finalists Amy Krebs and with the two other female contestants. Haley made it through to the Top 40, after which Haley finally made it through to the Top 24. On March 8, 2007, Scarnato was voted through to the Top 12 over her roommate, Sabrina Sloan.
Haley Scarnato spent 8 weeks as a contestant in American Idol, where she was mostly lambasted by the three judges.
Haley Scarnato sang the following songs during her stay in the American Idol, Season 6: “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” by Celine Dion, “Queen of the Night” by Whitney Houston, “If My Heart Had Wings” by Faith Hill, “Missing You” by Diana Ross, “Tell Him” by Billie Davis, “True Colors” by Cyndi Lauper, “Ain’t Misbehavin’” by Ella Fitzgerald, and “Turn the Beat Around” by Vicki Sue Robinson.
Haley Scarnato’s first week in the 3-week semi-finals, she sang “It’ All Coming Back to Me Now”, where she secured a safe spot in the top 24. Haley continued being on the safe spot for two consecutive weeks. She sang “Queen of the Night” where she landed in the top 20. On the third week, Haley landed on top 16, where she sang “If My Heart Had Wings”.
Having beaten Sabrina Sloan in the twelfth spot, Haley continued to struggle in the finals round, where there were only twelve of the contestants left.
During the first week of the 5-week finals period, Haley Scarnato sang “Missing You”, where she secured her safe spot again.
Haley’s second week marked the last week of her being able to defend her safe spot as she sang “Tell Him”, which by then was Scarnato’s best performance ever.
The last two weeks of Haley’s career as an American Idol contestant were quite depressing because Haley was always in the bottom two. Haley sang “True Colors” on the third week and Ain’t Misbehavin’ on the fourth week.
On Haley’s final week, she sang “Turn the Beat Around”. This was when Haley was finally voted off from the competition.
Haley Scarnato was eliminated from the show on April 11, after Haley received the lowest amount of votes during Latin Music Night. This made Haley the first contestant in the top 12 to be eliminated after having been in the bottom two or three in the previous weeks.
After Haley Scarnato’s 8-week stint in American Idol, Season 6, Haley sang the national anthem on May 12, 2007, prior to Game 3 of the Western Conference semifinals between the San Antonio Spurs and Phoenix Suns. |
